Have we seen the last of Randy Couture in the UFC?
With all the fight cards for early-mid 2011 quickly filing up, there is no sign of Randy Couture stepping into the Octagon.
In fact, the multi-time UFC champion has just signed on for a role in the action film “Setup,” alongside Bruce Willis and 50 Cent. Couture’s work on the film will begin in December and run into early 2011. Soon after, he will transition into taping for the sequel to “The Expendables,” with filming expected to begin in March.
Add to this to the fact that he was the choice to face James Toney in a joke of a fight that any serious title contender would not risk an injury in, and it looks like the days of “The Natural” being a threat in the UFC are over.
Even Randy himself admits that we have seen the last of him in the cage as a serious UFC contender:
“I think at some point, I’ve got to call enough, enough,” he said. “I’ve had an amazing year. My last few fights in honesty were more novelty fights. Not to take anything away from my opponents, but that’s the truth of the matter. They didn’t really matter in the division, they didn’t really put me any closer to a title, and I have to make a decision at some point. So I think I would entertain another novelty-type fight. I could still compete but I don’t see myself making a run at the title any time soon.”
