Every day rumours are getting stronger about the UFC returning to Australian shores in 2011. As first reported by MMAweekly.com, it’s looking to be on February 27 at the Acer Arena in Sydney.
Most news sources at this stage are reporting the main event for the card will be a Welterweight matchup between Carlos Condit and Chris Lytle. While that would be a great fight, my hunch is that the UFC will also bring a few bigger name fighters down under to strut their stuff.
While it’s usually unlikely to see title fights in foreign lands due to the time differences and the inability to show the fights during US prime time, there are strong rumours that if Australian fighter George Sotiropolous can get a win over Joe Lauzon at UFC 123 on November 20, he’ll get his Lightweight title shot at the Sydney event.
Whoever ends up the card though, it’s a sure bet that this event will sell out fast!
