The UFC could be heading back to Australia in 2013!
Director of UFC Operations in Australia, Tom Wright, has told the Daily Telegraph that a world title fight could headline the card likely to be televised on FX.
“Right now, Sydney is on the radar,” said Wright. “So is Brisbane, maybe even Adelaide. We won’t know all the final details until about three months out, but I can assure you I’ll be lobbying for a world title fight.
“As it stands, I don’t think the event will be a PPV. It will most likely be on FX. And these events, as you know, have boasted some huge fights in recent times, so a world title bout is what I’ll be pushing for.”
The way I see this coupled with recent news is that if Melbourne or Perth get their act together and legalise cage fighting, the UFC will most likely hold an event in one of those cities – otherwise there is little doubt that it will be once again held in Sydney or Brisbane.
As for the title fight, if it is not a PPV it would most likely be one of the newer divisions being featherweight, bantamweight or the soon to be introduced strawweight.
Either way, getting the UFC to bring another event down under is fantastic news for the UFC fans and the fact that we could soon see our first title fight down under is simply…AWESOME!
